Going beyond simply being a store, Bratpack has come to be a hub for the creative youth force as it plays an active role in supporting young talents through various advocacies and programs. And throughout the years, it has undeniably forged a reputation for fostering not only artist communities but also the local music scene – spawning a great deal of patrons among musicians and music aficionados.

Bratpack conjured up another one of its many efforts to keep things alive and fresh among the many communities it nurtures. As one of its missions include fostering a vibrant local music scene, Bratpack wanted to provide a platform for young-blooded DJs to be heard by a wider audience so they teamed up with Universe Gastrolounge and Nightclub and Pioneer DJ to present the SPINISTER DJ Competition.

The SPINISTER DJ Competition called out to aspiring college student DJs aged 18 to 25 to upload the meanest 30-minute mix for a chance to nab a breakthrough gig at the Malasimbo Lights and Dance Festival in Puerto Galera this summer. With Electronic Dance Music or EDM as the main genre of the competition, nine semi-finalists were selected to take part in the three-leg music competition.

Judged based not only on track originality, creativity, skill, but also for their showmanship and audience impact, the amateur DJs battled it out on the deck of Universe Gastrolounge and Nightclub in Resorts World Manila last January 22, 29, and February 5 for the semi-finals round.

Emerging as victors of the music battle were:

John Paul Gabuten from the De La Salle University in 5th place,

Rolf Ivan Mariano, likewise from the De La Salle University in 4th place,

Franz Bundoc of FEU Institute of Technology placing 3rd,

Mark Jhelou Manansala from the Angeles University Foundation coming in second,

and last but not the least was Jeane Philip Zamora from the FEU Institute of Technology who proved himself worthy of the title and a breakthrough stint at the highly-anticipated event.

Not only did Bratpack do one heck of a job in hosting a music competition, but also, no aspiring DJ went home empty handed as the 9 semi-finalists took home P5,000 in cash and goodies, with the 3rd placer taking home P10,000 in cash and P5,000 worth of Bratpack gift certificates, and the 2nd placer with P15,000 cash and P10,000 worth of Bratpack gift certificates. Plus, event attendees also got to take home awesome giveaways.

But for the best boon of them all, Jeane Philip Zamora, the grand winner, got P20,000 cash, Bratpack gift certificates amounting to P15,000, the Bratpack Spinister Trophy, a Pioneer DDJ-SR DJ Controller, an hour’s worth of performance at Universe Gastrolounge and Nightclub for SPINISTER’s closing show on February 18, 2015, and the ultimate prize of them all – a segment at the Malasimbo Lights and Dance Festival on March 13, 2015.

Indeed, Bratpack does it again in coming up with a truly exciting and compelling event that fosters artistry and innovation among the creative youth community. Apart from being the bridge that allows aspiring young talents to kick off their path to awesomeness, it also nurtures them as Bratpack continues to deliver all the goods to back them up.

Always on its toes in coming up with the coolest of ways to shake things up, aspiring DJs and music aficionados are highly suggested to stay tuned with the latest news about Bratpack because who knows, the Bratpack SPINISTER DJ Competition could hit back next year for another round of musical mayhem.
