Student athletes Rex Intal and Jessey De Leon are no strangers to the benefits of the right footwear (and fashion) in an active lifestyle.

Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) volleyball star, Rex Intal, is always on the move, pushing himself to the limit in sports, academics, and even art. This BFA Information Design student’s minimalist take on fashion makes him stand out in this aspect as well, “Less is better for me. Simple, but good. I usually wear plain shirts and chino shorts.”

With her academics, her volleyball career, and her modeling stints, University of Santo Tomas (UST) volleyball star and model Jessey De Leon mirrors Rex’s busy lifestyle and drive for excellence on and off the court. Mixing fashion and function is an everyday challenge, but the well-known athlete carries each ensemble with natural ease and grace. “I usually gravitate towards laid-back and androgynous,” she explains. “As long as I feel well put-together, I’m good to go.”

Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) student Ciara Sarte highlights the importance of comfort all-year-round as she juggles her busy schedule studying and squeezing hosting stints in between. “My personal sense of style is comfy. It is not about how much you are wearing or where it came from. It is about how confident you are in a particular outfit and how you give justice to it,” she explains.

For students and part-time models Paul Montecillo, Anne Magboo, and Steph Lagera, a combination of comfort and fashion is essential to excel in their chosen field. Grueling hours in the classroom and at work requires their feet to be in utmost ease, but their position as influencers and trendsetters mean they’re also fashion inspirations with their own distinct aesthetics.

TVC model and STI College student Paul Montecillo’s most essential quality for his everyday wardrobe is its versatility (for hours in campus and in front of the camera). Paul advises young people to “choose a pair of shoes that they can wear with almost anything — and of course it has to be feet-friendly.”

Nursing student and fellow model Anne Magboo has a lifelong passion for helping people. As she works towards her dream of becoming a doctor, the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center (UERM) medical student is making waves in social media with her personal ideals and fashion choices. “I like my style a bit edgy or classy,” she describes.

Steph Lagera, a Communication student from Far Eastern University (FEU), describes her preferred ensemble as “comfortable chic”. The confident beauty lists a number of “timeless staples” as her must-haves including the classic LBD (Little Black Dress), a good pair of jeans, and basic tees that can be paired flawlessly with stylish sneakers like Skechers Sport.
