New Balance celebrates the 20th anniversary of the classic 580 model this year with brand new releases and colorways that not only excite their solid fan-base, but also entices the newer enthusiasts and introducing them to the iconic silhouette. The 580’s popularity is intricately delineated in the style of the early 2000s era within the Japanese streetwear culture, playing a pivotal role in opening minds and furthering fashion as a favorite in the sneaker collaboration culture in Japan.

In honor of its long-standing renown, New Balance together with urban culture website Streething.com released a celebratory book that documents the 580’s rise to sneaker culture prominence, as well as a compilation of stories and discussions with culture creators and innovators that have born witness to the evolution of the 580.

In the anniversary book, you can find comprehensive interviews and discussions with personalities such as mita Sneakers Creative Director, Shigeyuki Kunii, renowned sneaker customizer and artist, Mark Ong A.K.A. SBTG, CEO of menswear label wings+horns, Craig Atkinson, designer at X-Girl Sport, Tomoko Fujita, along with Yoshifumi Egawa and Naotake Magara (from the now defunct Japanese streetwear label, realmadHECTIC).

And to open up the 580 to the extensive possibilities of the world of today, the book also features the reinventors responsible for the reinvented 580 like the Director of Sport Style at New Balance Global, Lifestyle GBU, Tetsuya Shono, and Shugo Moritani, the New Balance Global, Lifestyle Studio Manager.
