As the iconic Kobe Bryant’s legendary career comes to a close, official NBA sock maker Stance pays homage to the mythic athlete by collaborating with the man himself. The result is a capsule collection which takes inspiration from Bryant’s eye for detail, personal aesthetic and the year-long #KB20 campaign. To unveil the much-anticipated release, Stance held an intimate product launch last September 23 at SneakPeek in Shangri-La Plaza Mall.
In attendance during the event were top media personalities, VIPs and celebrities, as well as online sneaker bloggers. To kick off the program, attendees got in on a little brand history, which was then followed by the official launch of the Stance x Kobe collection. Soon after, a raffle was held that had a few lucky guests bring home several neat prizes from Stance.
Comprised of three styles, the collection combines Bryant’s ingenuity and groundbreaking moves on the court and his undoubtedly distinct aesthetic – all the while resonating with the elements of his #KB20 campaign.
The first of the socks called “The Final” is brought to life with a colorway of purple/gold/white/ and is adorned with the number “two” on the right sock and “four” on the left. Built on Stance’s signature performance basketball block, this style features superior breathability, moisture management and targeted cushioning. Most notably, “The Final” was worn on-court by the Lakers when they faced off with the Golden State Warriors last March 2016.
The second style aptly named the “K. Bryant” is a casual sock which features a cartoon caricature of Bryant himself. A closer look on the left sock will reveal a younger Bryant complete with the No. 8 jersey, classic cut, and a full goatee while the right side depicts a more seasoned Bryant with his No. 24 jersey, shaved head, and his infamous jutted jaw.
To complete the collection is the “Kobe Faces”, a spirited casual sock that draws inspiration from Bryant’s HeroVillain merchandise. Apart from the black/purple/gold/white mismatched colorway, giving further edge to this style are the words Hero and Villain written in Mandarin on the sock along with the HeroVillain and KB20 logos.
Beyond being a salute to Bryant and his unrivalled career, the Stance x Kobe collection allows fans and sneaker culture enthusiasts alike an opportunity to celebrate their idol in such a fun and exciting way.
