McDonald’s Philippines surprised the fast food industry with their own year-end plot twist coming out with a new Crispy Chicken Fillet flavor, “Soy Garlic.” Announced at a press event last Dec 7, 2017 in their new Frontera Verde branch, the new flavor launched with the McShare Box’s new packaging design for the 2017 holidays.

Sweet Soy’s entrance to McDonald’s Crispy Chicken Fillet game couldn’t have come at a more perfect time—with all the family gatherings and office Christmas celebrations around the corner. It’s the ideal potluck contribution with the fair price point and favorability. The sauce was mainly on the sweet side which was perfect with the small kick of spice the chicken fillet has always had. The texture felt reminiscent of BBQ sauce, sans the BBQ flavor. The color was sanguine like wine. Fragrant even before opening the box.

The name fits.

Sweet.

The 2017 McShare Box’s Holiday packaging shifted its standard red and yellow to a predominantly light blue color with dashes of white and a red stripe for that signature Mcdonald’s hue surrounded by festive illustrations. The new color scheme shifts away from your usual green and red Christmas decoration-inspired colors and explores other hues less chosen for the season but still manages to inspire festivity. It contains fan favorites chicken and nuggets, served with rice, drinks, and the fast food staple: fries.

McDonald’s will be rolling out this colorway of the McShare Box’s packaging throughout the holiday season, and as for the brand new flavor Sweet Soy–it’s here to stay.
