Samsung PH hit the ground running with the Galaxy A8 and A8+ (2018). The Galaxy smartphones have always been something Samsung was proud of, and like any proud parent, they take care of their offspring.

The new A8’s hits the shelves January 27 officially but was launched at an event last January 18 at the Penthouse 8747 in Makati. Along with the phone unveiling was a quick live demo of the phones’s camera capabilities which showcased amazing Full 1080p HD shots at amazing frame rates (30 fps) and it doesn’t even stop there–the whole demo was done underwater in an aquarium more than a foot deep. The waterproof and sinkproof smartphones trend continues with the A8.

With the phone’s grand event came with the announcement of a new brand ambassador, actress Yassi Pressman who took time to explain how the phone and its features perfectly match her lifestyle, especially its amazing low light capable camera and the amazing resolution of both the rear and front cameras. She stressed how she loved taking photos and was one of the early adopters of the “selfie” trend.

The A8 emulates many of the S8’s premiere design features. Not to be confused with the 2016 A8 which only ran on a quad core processor, the A8 boasts the lightning fast octa core S8 is equipped with. Screen real estate spans 5.7″ and 6.0″ respectively for A8 and A8+ both at 2220 x 1080 Full HD+ with AMOLED, for maximum crisp. It at 32 GB of internal memory while the A8+ has 64 GB, although both will be expandable via micro SD card of up to 128 GB and 256 GB respectively.

Another key difference between the A8 and it’s plus size model is the 6 GB RAM for A8 and 12 GB for the plus model. For comparison, both S8 and S8+ run on 8 GB of random access memory. Although both A8’s clock speeds fail in comparison to the S8’s superior 2.3 Ghz as A8 will only be running at 1.8 Ghz and 2.2 Ghz.

The A8 may not boast the same firepower but what it lacks in speed, it makes up for in features. Aside from beating the S8’s 12 MP rear camera, A8 will be taking photos at 16 MP, beating even most entry level and professional cameras in the market. It’ll have USB 2.0 version and USB-C interface as well. Battery will be at 3050 and 3500 mAh, similar as well to the S8 and S8+, for comparison.

The two A8’s will go for SRP of PHP 26,990 and PHP 32,990 respectively.
