One of Poblacion’s popular spots is turning three years old. Today, Dulo MNL is celebrating their 2nd year anniversary with drinks, drinks, and more drinks, along with performances from Shrugs, Duality, Samantha Nicole, Major Chie, and Manila Animal.

To celebrate their two years running, we asked Rae Lim Pineda, managing partner of Dulo, about the five best parties they’ve witnessed and took part in at Dulo.

Unknwn x Oktoberfest

Sometimes all it takes to make something new is to see it from a different point of view. UNKNWN is a music and community driven experience based in Manila, Philippines. They kicked off the next phase of UNKNWN with a fresh take on something familiar, the Oktoberfest. The message was to throw everything but the beer out the window — we’re about to deliver an Oktoberfest experience unlike anything you’ve seen before.

“Unknwn was absolutely crazy! We had a pool of people on both floors and even outside. It’s definitely fun and exciting to see the community let loose,” says Rae.

Whiteboard Night

Make your presence felt by putting suggestions up on the white board for how you want the jams to sound. The improv jazz session was made so that those who came by took control of the night. Whether it was a song title, theme, chord progression, or even feelings–everything was up to you, as long as you were yourself.

“It’s fun to see musicians just hang out and do their craft outside of the usual gig scene. I find it amazing, all the friendships and new bands that have been formed because/from our open jams.”

Bloom Arts Festival

The annual neighborhood art festival turns 10 of Poblacion’s most famous spots into galleries for 3 days. Along with Run Rabbit Run, Kapwa, Oto, Workshop, Yoi, Lokal Hostel, The Social, Commune, and Pineapple Lab, Dulo hosted the Bloom Arts Festival that supports a whopping 100 artists.

“I’m glad to see many artists (emerging and established) come together to celebrate 3 days of music & arts. We’re very grateful and excited that all partner establishments in Poblacion open their doors for us to be a part of an event like this.”

Fête de la Musique

Fête de la Musique is an annual music festivity that is celebrated on the 21st of June, which started in France in 1982 and is now celebrated in over 700 cities and 120 countries. The music festival taps all musical tastes, from pop to hip-hop, reggae to classical, electronic to jazz.

Dulo hosted the Multi-Sensory End Stage that featured an awesome lineup from musical acts, to performance art and everything in between. Bands included Ang Bagong Luto Ni Enriquez, Cocojam, Dayaw, Northern Man, Pan Capra, Peaceful Gemini, REKLAMO, Shamanism with DJ sets from Boogie B, DJXAW, Hard Tito, MANILAANIMAL, SBTNE, and The Vanstock.

“It was Fête on the very first day Dulo opened its doors, so it will always have a special place in our hearts.”

Party Monsters All Star 4 Viewing Party (RuPaul’s Drag Race Screening)

Dress down or come in drag; Dulo held a screening party for RuPaul’s Drag Race. The idea was to create a safe place where fans of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’, who are mostly members of the LGBTQ community, can come together and watch the show. Since viewing parties are usually focused on basketball and boxing, why not for ‘RuPaul’s’ right? They also gave away Jeffree Star cosmetics to those serving the most ‘SICKENING lewks’, to make the event a so-called Superbowl of drag.

“It’s interesting because people can just watch in the comforts of their own homes, they don’t have to get out of their ways to pay cover or spend for food, but it’s something special witnessing the collective energy of a community while enjoying something that represents them. Dulo is happy to be a safe place and we’re thankful it gets recognized for that.”.

Come by and celebrate tonight at Dulo MNL don’t forget to take lots of photos!

Happy Birthday, Dulo!
