Vans Philippines announces the upcoming release of artist John Nikko Pelaez’s limited edition pair of Vans, marking the first time the brand comes out with a design created by a Filipino. Pelaez was the grand winner of Vans’ Asia Custom Culture 2018, his design coming out on top of more than 10,000 submissions and 9 other competition finalists from across the continent.
The design, entitled “Along With The Gods,” takes inspiration from Greek mythology, showcasing gods casting down fire while cruising on skateboards. It’s emblematic of Vans’ brand: giving way for those who wear it to be the masters of their own fate and express themselves however way they want. “Our own rules, our own style.”
Utilizing a remastered version of the classic checkerboard pattern as background, Pelaez’s design gives us something familiar yet simultaneously striking and indicative of his own, unique style.
John Nikko Pelaez’s limited edition “Along With The Gods” will be available at selected Vans Concept Stores starting Nov. 15, 2019.
