In celebration of the new decade and lunar new year, Vans joins forces with Los Angeles-based Chinese artist Zhao Zhao on a special “Year of the Rat” capsule collection influenced by the creativity and curiosity of the street rat.

The collection consists of three familiar silhouettes revamped with details and motifs to represent the creativity of the rat. The collection’s familiar Old Skool silhouette is characterized by light grey suede uppers, a dark grey Sidestripe, a pink waffle sole, and is finished off with a stacked cutout heel counter to mimic the entrance of rat tunnels.

The Era, Vans’ classic low top skate shoe, features an all-over monotone grey color scheme and showcases a conceptual “layered” heel tab.

The final sneaker in the capsule, the Comfycush Slip-Skool, combines the Slip-on and Old Skool, with the Slip-on acting as the base and the Old Skool as a transparent casing. The design is meant to resemble the network of underground passageways used by rats in the city. All the shoes in the collection include a special rendition of the iconic Vans heel tab, where a rat tail is placed to represent the entire collection.

The Vans and Zhao Zhao “Year of the Rat” collaboration is set for a December 31 release at selected Vans concept stores. Check out Vans on Instagram for more updates on the drop.
