Patty Tiu knows about wild nights. The nights that get your heart pumping and plans can change on a dime. The nights in dark clubs where strangers become friends and friends become closer than family. The nights that stretch on, with smoke, dancing, and the best and baddest decisions. But these nights always come to an end. Eventually the music stops. The house lights come on and everyone stumbles out to face the grudging morning. Patty Tiu knows about that too.
For the last ten years, electronic music DJ Patty Tiu has been holding court at some of the most celebrated clubs locally and abroad, first as half of the duo Deuce Manila and then as the solo performer Deuce. She has played alongside EDM megastars Icona Pop, Steve Aoki, David Guetta, and Armin van Buuren, to name a few. With all that under her belt, what else is there for Patty to conquer?
“I told myself, when I open for Armin van Buuren, then that’s it for me,” says Patty.
“And I did it. I carried this brand [Deuce], brought it to greater heights. I always do what I say I’m going to do, and I know I’m the greatest of all time.”
The Final Ascend is Patty’s retirement tour to bring exclusive live DJ sets to familiar places, provinces, and festivals that welcomed her throughout her career. “This is really for the solid trance and Deuce fans. The ones that enjoy loud music, the taste of tech-trance, from the golden ages of EDM, electronic, drum and bass, and trap. I’d love for this to be Deuce’s last few rides, a decent to madness to say goodbye.”

To fully appreciate the end, we have to start at the beginning. And as Patty tells it, it all starts with a wild night. 17-year old Patty clocked out of her corporate job and joined her office mates to go to Embassy, her first club experience.
“As soon as I entered the vicinity, I could feel my heart race. It was like a slow-mo moment. Everybody’s hands were raised. Everybody was celebrating, just smiling and hugging each other. I still get goosebumps.”
“And then I saw the DJ,” recalls Patty. “The deck looked like a freaking shrine. It called me. I told myself, whatever the fuck he’s doing, I want that.”
That moment changed Patty’s life. She quit the security of a regular salary to pursue her dream of being a DJ. She cut her teeth at the music equipment in Looper Beat Academy, a DJ school in San Juan, where she tried to beat-match nearly every night. “The first time I got it, it felt like falling in love,” she says.
“To me, DJing is not just DJing. It’s showing people a message. It’s opening their minds and hearts,“ Patty says. “It’s choosing the perfect song, the one that’s going to open someone’s eyes, that perfect timing, so you can make [the audience] understand a feeling or a meaning. Music has the ability to do that. And I don’t take that lightly.”

Since then, Patty has been killing it at DJ competitions and making thousands of people dance. Her shows are famed for offering a full multisensory experience with singers, dancers, and a whole production team working to make sure the audiences have a night to remember.
Patty too has shows she won’t ever forget. “My first ever descend. That was a Hydro gig. I did the harness. It was such a brave thing for the organizers to say yes to. I didn’t care if I was risking my fucking life there because I trusted the person holding my harness. I remember telling him, no matter what happens, let’s make this memorable. If this is the last time, if something goes wrong, I’d be honored to end it here. Because it ended great.”
Perhaps in a subconscious way, Patty has always known how she wants her DJ career to end: with a bang, leaving the audience wanting more. Never overstaying her welcome or being the last to leave the club.

“Everything changes,” Patty says. “Dinaanan ko lahat ng genres, lahat ng era.” From the golden era of electronic until now. Now there’s some really hybrid weird shit going on that techno is starting to sound like tech-trance, and trance is starting to sound like techno and progressive. And there’s a fucking breakbeat in the middle!”

“As things change, I feel that Deuce has reached its peak,” admits Patty. “I respect this brand so much. I gave more to Deuce than what I gave myself because people love Deuce. They love hearing what was the most different in a line up. Who was the most courageous? Who was the most crazy? I think Deuce has reached its full potential and I hate to see it fizzle out.”
Rest assured, this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Patty. She may no longer be at the DJ deck, but expect her to be working behind it, directing shows, building concepts, and bringing forth new talents that deserve to be heard.

“There’s just so many things going on that I want to focus on the future. And I can’t focus on the future if I’m still trying to be in the spotlight, you know?”
says Patty. “I wanna give this passion to something else, more than just music. I’m not turning my back to it. If anything, I’m spreading my wings so I can soar higher.”
Already, Patty’s got her fingers in so many pies. At the height of the pandemic, she launched Thompson Collective, a truck that offers tattoos and piercings, and can turn into a DJ booth, remote studio, livestream studio, or even a mobile bar or cafe if necessary.

She also runs Thompson Megalo, a small creatives and talent management agency, where Patty gets to mentor young up-and-coming artists through their own careers.
And there’s more. “We’re dipping our toes in technology-- jumping in, getting sucked into the water if we have to! We’re in the NFT space. We’re studying Web 3. We’re going decentralized. I wish I had more brain power. I feel like I’m on NZT all the fucking time, just trying to absorb as much as I can.”
Patty may be winding down with Deuce, but she’s clearly revving up. As for the music, she isn’t worried. “The music, those memories, those experiences, it’s there forever. Even if you won’t be hearing or seeing Deuce, when you close your eyes, it’s there. And for that, it has to be left legendary.”
Editor’s Note:
The entire CLAVEL team is grateful to have had the chance to feature Patty Tiu and get to know her journey as a DJ and a real person. We’re keen on seeing her evolve into an even better version of herself as she steps more and more into her new ventures.
We’d also like to thank our partners for supporting us in this project. Patty made sure to include brands that supported her career from the beginning. IPANEMA was a brand that always believed in Patty and their outpouring of support for our campaign has made everything come together. Like Patty, IPANEMA continuously updates their style and changes with time but remains as classic as it can be. We stand with IPANEMA, we also believe that the beach is not a place, but a state of mind - and that women take the sun's energy wherever they go. If you’re curious about pieces to get, check out their latest collection via their online flagship store.
Another brand who’s been valuable to us in this campaign is KINETIX Lab. Their mission is to help you develop physical strength, and also an overall healthy mind and body that will help you navigate all the intricacies of your day-to-day life. Their team has been wonderful and ever so supportive of our campaign with Patty. If you’d like to be part of their growing community, make sure to head on over to their centers located at Quezon City and Mandaluyong City. More information on their services can be found on their website. A huge shoutout to all the brands who’ve been nothing but kind to us during this entire campaign! And for our production team, we couldn’t have done this without all your skill and talent. From conceptualizing the entire campaign to the actual shoot day, up until post-production, you’ve shown your trust in our team and it’s only right that we do the same. We share this project with our audience with nothing but smiles on our faces. And as we come to an end of the campaign, we’re reminded that ENDINGS are only signs of NEW BEGINNINGS. Thank you!
