We’ve seen the concept of inclusivity grow in the past years. What started out as a catch all term for all things equal, inclusivity has now influenced how we look at music, art, entertainment, and even fashion. And now, local brand DOPE footwear takes it another step (get it?)

Foot Traffic

Determined to cater to individuals of all genders and sizes, SLAYTINA launched DOPE Footwear in 2021. At first the brand was exclusively on Facebook, where customers could order their preferred shoe designs and sizes online.

With their growing momentum and customer base, DOPE Footwear built their physical store located in Manila and had its grand opening last December 9, 2023. CLAVEL was lucky enough to witness a core memory for all the people involved with the brand.

The March of SLAYTINA

DOPE Footwear’s founder and mother, SLAYTINA is a 21-year-old media student and an alternative drag artist, who’s been craving an outlet for her creativity and self-expression. Her brand is not only a band-aid solution to the lack of wearable boots and platforms; it’s a way for SLAYTINA to embrace her passion for drag and her unwavering entrepreneurial spirit.

Reflecting on the early days of DOPE Footwear, SLAYTINA candidly shared the challenges faced while forging her path in the industry. Starting as a one-person team, she embraced the jack-of-all-trades role, handling everything from marketing and shipping to promotion, sales, and even production. Through sheer determination, the business steadily grew, and SLAYTINA subsequently built a dedicated team to support her.

“In the business world, especially if you’re young, you really need to be able to step up and just do it with the help of the right people.”

Speaking of the right people, that’s SLAYTINA’s secret weapon. She’s been surrounded by such a supportive family and group of friends, that her success is the success of all of them.

Bigger than Average

Now, sizing is not the only thing we love about the brand, though they do offer sizes from a US 5 all the way up to a US 14. Plus if that still is not enough, you can give your actual measurements and they can customize your desired style and color. Their designs are adaptable from the stage to an everyday outfit. They’ve got platforms and pleasers for an all out wardrobe, or you can opt to go for their ankle boots and still slay.

Walking with Confidence

In just two years, DOPE Footwear has achieved some impressive milestones and the future looks very bright for the brand. One standout achievement was when Drag Race Philippines showcased the brand on their show, inviting host Paolo Ballesteros to wear DOPE Footwear. This opportunity propelled the brand to even further success, as other influential figures like Sassa Gurl and BJ Pascual took notice and helped solidify their reputation as a fashion-forward label.

SLAYTINA’s journey is just like the tale we hear in movies, a true testament to perseverance and a rallying cry for dreamers from all walks of life. She’s not one to shy away from risks, boldly embracing this new chapter in her life, setting up shop like a boss.

“My mind is not afraid to take a risk and to take onto this new journey of setting up a shop.”

Waiting for the perfect moment is simply not an option when it comes to making progress and creating opportunities. It’s all about utilizing your vision and taking that first step, no matter how daunting it may seem. With determination and a clear objective, the possibilities are endless.

Follow SLAYTINA’s story on her social media channels and be inspired to chase your dreams, no matter where they may lead.
