With all the fuss surrounding October and with Halloween drawing closer, let’s all collectively take a step back and chill for a sec. Putting our hands up with the spooky contents, we’re instead bringing to you some iconic fits from iconic characters. Whether you’re looking for some last minute, easy Halloween costumes or just looking for some outfit inspirations in general, CLAVEL has you covered.

Pearl (2022)
Pearl, the, dare we say, most iconic star, is up first on the list. Trapped in a never ending view of cornfields and dust, this film depicts how a young woman lusting for a more glamorous lifestyle like the ones seen on television pursues stardom in an attempt to get away from her overbearing mother, ill father, and being tied down by her farm life. On the brink of madness, things quickly turn dark as she further faces the reality she has set for herself.

A plain pair of denim overalls paired with some teal blue polo and some lace ribbons for accessories, the character is seen to be wearing recurrent clothes throughout the film that symbolizes the mundanity and repetitiveness that comes from farm life.

Ladybird (2017)
Ladybird is a coming of age film that captures the essence of what it is being a teenage girl. Set in Sacramento, California, the movie follows a teenager that’s trying to make her own path while wanting to get out of her hometown alongside navigating around her relationship with her mother.

The movie is a coming of age film that circles around a teenager’s story. Lady Bird’s style isn’t definitive by all means, the film highlights how the main character is in a moment of self discovery and is in the process of learning more and more about herself.

A striped shirts and some denim pants, throw in a caramel beige coat, a brown leather belt and a pair of doc martens, this outfit mainly showcases what a rebellious, less affluent and yearning-for-something-bigger-something-more-extravagant teenager in a sartorially stunted town might wear.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
Sticking to the coming of age themed films, up next on the list is Moonrise Kingdom. A film directed by the one and only Wes Anderson and your not so typical take on Hollywood romantic comedy film. A movie set in the summer of 1964, two twelve year old pen pals fall in love in the midst of everything.

Turning our heads more towards the scout of the duo, we’re taking down some outfit inspos on Sam Shakuksy. Being one of the main characters and a scout, Sam’s main piece is, of course, no other than the traditional boy scout uniform. Paired with the traditional military green top and khaki shorts, is a plethora of badges that’s proudly on display for the world to see and also showcasing that our guy Sam over here is a bit of a know it all. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, being a know it all is perfect if you’re going to run away.

Lost in Translation (2003)

In a world where loneliness often feels like a universal experience, Lost in Translation invites us to explore the unexpected bonds that form in the most unlikely of places. The film centers on two lonely individuals, Bob Harris and Charlotte, who form a deep connection while staying in Tokyo. Both find themselves adrift in a city that feels both electric and isolating, grappling with their own uncertainties about life and relationships.

This film is not about romance for the sake of romance. Instead, it captures the kind of deep connection that can form between two people who truly see and understand each other, even if only for a fleeting moment in time. It’s one of the most accurate depictions of human connection, illustrating how sometimes the most profound relationships aren’t defined by grand gestures or traditional romance, but by the quiet understanding of simply being present with someone who just gets it.

One of the film’s standout scenes shows Charlotte during a karaoke night in Tokyo. With a shoulderless black top, grey skirt, and low-wedge black pumps. What really stands out is her bright pink wig, cut into a sleek bob with straight bangs. It’s a rare moment of joy for Charlotte, where the wig and her carefree outfit symbolize a brief escape from her feelings of isolation. This scene remains a fan favorite, capturing the spontaneity and intimacy that make Lost in Translation so memorable.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Diving even deeper into the complexities of relationships and the impact of shared experiences, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind follows Joel and Clementine, who, after a painful breakup, decide to undergo a procedure to erase memories of each other. As Joel’s memories begin to disappear, he realizes he still loves Clementine and tries to hold onto the moments they shared. It resonates with those who have experienced love and loss, showing that sometimes, even when memories fade, the feelings remain. This goes to show the profound impact people leave on each other’s lives. The ending emphasizes the famous quote by Alfred Lord Tennyson that “‘Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”

Following their first encounter after the procedure, Clementine’s seen wearing a zipped orange hoodie that complements her half-tied striking blue hair, along with gray fingerless arm warmers, light denim jeans, and white sneakers. Clementine’s ever-changing hair color is a clever narrative tool used throughout the film, helping the audience keep track of different periods in her relationship with Joel. Each hue, from green to red to blue, signifies a different chapter in their love story. In this particular scene, Clementine’s overall look stands out against Joel’s monotone outfit, highlighting the contrast between her spontaneous nature and his more reserved personality.
