At CLAVEL, we’ve always turned to heavy music as an outlet for our emotions. We love a good screamo track with our coffee and a hard-hitting hip-hop beat to power us through lazy afternoons. PRETTYMF9INE taps into that energy like few others, blending intense vocal screams with gritty hip-hop beats to create chaotic anthems that speak directly to our enraged souls.
It’s always cool to see an artist with the kind of raw energy and emotional depth that PRETTYMF9INE brings to the table. The rising star has just dropped his latest EP, Pretty Boy Indeed II, a continuation of the unapologetic journey he started with Pretty Boy Indeed. But behind the name and the beats lie a story that’s both personal and universal—a tale of rebellion, self-discovery, and a burning desire to connect with people.
Standing Out
Born to a rockstar dad, PRETTYMF9INE’s musical journey seemed destined from the start. Growing up surrounded by his father’s heavy rock record collection, he developed a deep love for music that would shape his own sound. But the true spark came from the bond he shared with his father through music—a connection that went beyond just listening, transcending time and place.
“We used to send my grandfather in Japan VHS tapes of our daily life,” PRETTYMF9INE recalls. “You’d see me dancing, rocking out to boy bands. That’s where I first started performing music, just vibing with what I felt.”
Despite the early start, it wasn’t an easy road. As a kid, he struggled to blend in. He didn’t want to fit in. Instead, he wanted to stand out—to be his own person. He wanted to be an icon for those who, like him, felt a little misunderstood but always had the best intentions.
Doing Crime
Like many artists, PRETTYMF9INE’s breakthrough moment came during a time of personal uncertainty. It was the pandemic. With just 5,000 pesos in his pocket, he decided to invest in his future and spend the money on a single track. He bought a beat, hired a producer, and paid for distribution, releasing his first song, Crime. It was a bold move—and one that would change his life forever.
“Crime was my first step into the real world of music. It was a risk, but it felt right,” he says. That raw energy, that need to prove himself, bled into every beat and bar. From that moment, there was no turning back.
Music as Revenge
PRETTYMF9INE ’s music is best described as a blend of raw, unfiltered energy. His tracks pulse with intensity, and his lyrics are charged with emotion—often driven by a need for revenge against the people who doubted him. This mindset comes through in his sound, which is an eclectic mix of genres and influences. “I started experimenting with different sounds,” he explains. “Watching the FNTNL music video of Bawal Clan really opened my eyes to a new avenue of hip-hop.” It was then that he realized the potential of blending raw emotion with experimental beats—something that became a hallmark of his music.
Pretty Boy Perspective
PRETTYMF9INE ’s sound is often referred to as “Pogi bars,” a term coined by the people around him to describe his unique style—a mix of raw energy, intense beats, and honest lyrics from a “pretty boy” perspective. And the new EP Pretty Boy Indeed 2 takes this sound to the next level.
Produced alongside his longtime collaborator DRAYS, Pretty Boy Indeed 2 is a creative exploration—a deep dive into their personalities and worldviews, all tied together by the sonic intensity that defines their style. It’s the kind of music that resonates with listeners who may also feel a certain darkness, a shared experience of being misunderstood. Through his tracks, PRETTYMF9INE creates a community—a space for those seeking something real.
Own Lane
Despite his underground roots, PRETTYMF9INE isn’t limiting himself. He believes his sound has a place in mainstream hip-hop. “I’m carving my own lane and building a community of my own.” he says. With a vision of becoming a defining voice in his scene, PRETTYMF9INE is focused on evolving his sound and expanding his reach through new projects and collaborations.
In a music world often dominated by formulaic sounds, PRETTYMF9INE’s experimental approach stands out as a much-needed force for innovation. With Pretty Boy Indeed 2, he’s not just creating a unique sound—he’s carving out space for artists to take risks and challenge conventions. Whether in the underground or on the charts, his raw energy and boundary-pushing style remind us of the importance of artistic evolution. This is just the start of a movement that’s here to stay.
