For years, Nike has grown to revolutionize the very definition of what it means to be a sneaker. Bringing together research, development, and design, every Nike sneaker release evolves into the next generation wardrobe staple that it has become today.

One of the many revolutionized classics that Nike has introduced recently is the Air Max Lunar1. The Air Max Lunar1 boasts of the innovative Nike Lunarlon foam while maintaining its signature Air Max technology.

Along with the Nike Lunarlon foam, the Nike Air Max Lunar1 also has breathable mesh panels that maintain the commitment to provide lightweight comfort-true to its Air Max form, providing walkable comfort for the everyday sneakerhead without sacrificing fashion and function.

We caught up with two everyday chicks who just can’t get enough of their new-found love for kicks. Proving that if you love ’em, you gotta rock ’em.

First up is self-confessed sneaker-lover Kash Zabala, a 27-year-old whose love for sneakers started when she first laid her eyes on a pair of Nike Sky Hi kicks. Kash tells us about her hesitance early on in the shoe game when it came to rocking out a pair of Jordans during a night out but lo and behold, her sneakers upped her game even more (as they always do).

How did you get into your love for sneakers?

I used to be addicted to heels but when I saw a Nike Sky Hi pair, it triggered me into buying other kinds of sneakers. Not only is it comfortable, but it’s also stylish & versatile! Who would have thought that it would look good on your skirt, dress, pants and shorts? Plus, it gives you that add-on swag.

How many pairs of sneakers do you have so far?

I currently have seven sneakers in total.

Where do you usually get your sneaker-inspired looks from?

I usually go online and check Instagram, blogs, online lifestyle magazines, Pinterest, Lookbook/Chictopia and even Japan’s Vivi magazine.

What was the most defining sneaker moment for you and any of your sneakers?

Three years ago, I was in a mall in Cebu to check out Sinulog shirts and randomly saw the Nike Air Jordan 3 Retro “Black Cement” in the Nike store. There was only one size left, a youth (3.5Y) size, and it surprisingly fit me! My boyfriend and friends who were with me at that time pressured me to buy the pair because they all said it was a classic. I gave in but honestly felt a little confused on how I was going to wear them with my other clothes. One night, I decided to [give] it a go and wore it to go out with my friends. I was so amazed at the reactions of people – even strangers – to my Black Cements. I actually gained new friends after that night! It’s funny and definitely gave me a stronger appreciation for sneakers.

Of all the Nike sneakers you have, which one is your favorite pair and why?

My current favorite is my Nike Airmax 1 FV QS Foco Bonito since those are the only quickstrike pair I have.

…are a stunner!

Next up, we got 29-year-old IT professional and freelance photographer Karen Villar, who shares that more than acquiring a wide range of kicks, she is very much into going for special pairs that are unique yet fit for her everyday lifestyle. Karen is the type of sneakerhead who really lets her kicks serve their purpose rather than just putting them out on display.

When did you first start loving sneakers?

It all started with my interest for street dancing during my younger years, where sneakers were a staple during practices and performances. Growing up, I was heavily influenced by elements of hip-hop dancing, and so it was natural for me to embrace sneakers into my closet. Today, I like to keep my sneakers as a weekend and travel staple because they make me feel comfortable yet stylish whether I am out for a walk in the park or biking around unpaved roads while traveling.

How many pairs do you have right now?

Currently, I have ten that I rotate and use until worn-out.  I like to have my sneakers serve its purpose rather than just collecting and displaying them. Because let’s be honest, sneakers are made for walking! [laughs]

What inspires your sneaker-centric style?

I would usually classify my style as eclectic so I don’t have a specific fashion inspiration. I’d like to think that I can get inspiration everywhere, from a magazine, a book, a movie or what I see on the streets. But it you would compel me to pick a few, I’d say Hypebeast, Complex and Pinterest!

Was there ever a moment that you just had to say, “I shouldn’t have worn these kicks today”?

I used to have this pair of Nike SB Mama Bears that I asked to be exported by a friend from the US. Since I felt this pair was quite “special”, I rarely wore it compared to my other sneakers. One day, I decided to wear it for a stroll in the city. Unexpectedly, rain poured like crazy and eventually made my kicks look like newly washed bears, soaking wet and heavy. On the positive side though, it definitely kept my feet warm and dry.

Of all the Nike sneakers you have, which one is your favorite pair and why?

My current favorite is my Nike Air Max Lunar1. I like its black, volt and gray color. It’s like sophistication meets character. I can wear it with skirts and dresses when I’m feeling feminine, leather jackets and jeans on colder days, or a simple loose shirt and denim shorts combo for running weekend errands.  The possibilities of mixing and matching it with my wardrobe excite me!

…are keepers. You’ll never have to sacrifice your shoes (on a date night) because of their aching feet. Men, keep that in mind! [laughs]
