The date? March 26.

The party? AIR MAX DAY 2016.

Nike invited us to the epic celebration of AIR MAX DAY in Bangkok, Thailand to celebrate the iconic sneaker as well as the much awaited Southeast Asian drop of the Air Max HTM Collection.

Created by Nike Sportswear, AIR MAX DAY 2016 celebrates 29 years of Air Max in which Thailand was honored as one of the 25 countries to play host to this global celebration. Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia to market Air Max LD-Zero H, Air Max 90 Ultra Superfly T and Air Max Ultra M from the HTM Collection, which they dropped via a sneaker raffle to give sneakerheads and enthusiasts alike equal chance to purchase the limited pairs.

Nike saw to the transformation of the NOW26 studio in Siam Square Soi 7, turning it into a space made for #AIRMAXDAY and the hundreds of sneakerheads that came through. The space was devoted to setting the scene, reminiscent of the creativity of Tinker Hatfield, Nike Vice President of Creative Concepts, who innovated the development of the Nike Air Max.

With the inspiration drawn from his personal impression of Centre Pompidou in France, Hatfield created the original Air Max in 1987, the sneaker that would later grow into an extremely successful franchise, being regarded as one of the most iconic silhouettes in the sneaker world as well as the perfect shoe for integration of cutting-edge technologies.

“Nike Air Max is an iconic shoe that has enjoyed exceptional popularity over the past 29 years.” says Country Marketing Manager Pannee Santiwiwatkul of Nike (Thailand) Ltd. “More importantly, Air Max reflects the continual evolution of innovation at Nike, particularly the brand’s endeavor to fuse inspiration with cutting-edge technologies in order to create the shoes that are truly sought after by sneaker enthusiasts worldwide.”

The sneakerheads and enthusiasts who came through got privileged access to the AIR MAX LAB, an exhibit of the HTM Collection by three of the world’s most innovative designers: Fragment Design founder, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Tinker Hatfield, and Nike, Inc. President & CEO Mark Parker.

The AIR MAX LAB also featured a showcase of favorite Air Max sneakers from the personal collection of Toon Bodyslam, the number 1 rock star in Thailand, who was dubbed the Master Of Air for the festivities.

The main hall of the lab was also the space for a live painting installation by TRK, a street artist who Nike (Thailand) got to create an Air Max Day-inspired mural over stacks and stacks of shoe boxes.

Participants of the event were also privy to a sneaker service zone that offered professional cleaning services to the participants who rocked their Air Max sneakers for the main event.

To cap off the AIR MAX DAY celebrations, guests were treated to an after-party with food, booze, beats, and live performances from the country’s biggest acts including the band, Kidnappers, and hip-hop group, Thaitanium featuring DJ Buddah. All rocking their favorite pairs of Air Max, of course.

Don’t miss out next year for Air Max Day 2017. Stay fresh, kids.
