Having produced and remixed tracks for global icons like Drake, Rihanna, and Radiohead, James Thomas Smith (better known as Jamie xx) has, without a doubt, solidified his name in the music industry and has been unstoppable ever since the success of his solo debut back in May of 2015. His debut album, In Colour, has received widespread praise and has secured nominations like the prestigious 2015 Mercury Prize and the Best Dance/Electronic Album category at the 58th Grammy Awards.
After nine years, Jamie xx aims to express a new wave with his second album, In Waves, a melancholic melody written for the paradise of bliss, heartbreak, and introspection. The music all came together during his DJ sets from the years 2021-2023, which birthed an album about self reflection told in tunes and melodies. In Waves is an inkling of an inspiration he found during COVID-19. With this, Jamie wants to showcase and express transcendence without falling into overly sentimental nostalgia, telling a replica of spoken word moments made on a dance floor.
