The Philippines is no stranger to the DOTA 2 scene. It is home to many famous players such as DJ, Abed, and the currently all-Filipino team Execration. In fact the Philippines is always a well represented nationality in tournaments even if teams don’t exclusively enter as a country representative and act more like a club with handpicked players from anywhere in the world. Filipinos are rarely on the map for athletics, but we’ve proved our worth in the international stage more than enough times to be a real deal in the professional DOTA 2 world.

Eight teams will battle it out for a total of USD 1 000 000.00 in the Philippine Arena, Bulacan, for the Galaxy Battles II: Emerging Worlds DOTA 2 tournament. Last year’s champions, Team Newbee, will be trying get a back-to-back as the competition is tougher than ever.

Virtus.Pro announced in a statement that they will no longer compete in the tournament after Valve rescinded major status. “The [major] status withdrawal from Valve was the main reason behind our cancellation of the invitation,” wrote Dvoryankin, Virtus.Pro General Manager said in a report by Compete.

Dota 2 tournaments sometimes have “major” status whereas teams not only compete for the prize money but also points to enter “The International,” regarded as the biggest pro tournament in the world.
