The biggest, toughest, and hottest dance crews in the country continue to set the bar higher as they face off onstage in Skechers Streetdance Battle 10. The first and second elimination legs of the prestigious competition saw 26 dance crews unleash their fiercest moves last September 27 and 28 in front of a packed crowd in Ayala Fairview Terraces.
Hosted by Show Suzuki, the Skechers Streetdance Battle 10 was off to an amazing start as teams, streetdance enthusiasts, and supporters from competing schools converged to celebrate the much-awaited kick-off party with a bang. Fresh off their win at the 2014 World Hip Hop Dance Competition, the A-Team Megacrew fired up the spectators with a groundbreaking performance that set the energy levels rocketing through the roof. The next day, Show kept the excitement going as more schools took to the stage to demonstrate exactly why they deserve to be a part of Skechers Streetdance Battle’s generation of champions.
The judges tasked to evaluate the teams were Wilson Ong of Whiplash, MJ Arda of A-Team Megacrew, Gelai Aguzar of G-Force, and founder of the famed group that won in America’s Best Dance Crew Season 5 Matthew “Dumbo” Nguyen of Poreotics. It’s the second time the international dancer has judged the Skechers Streetdance Battle, and this time his expectations are a little bit higher than it was back in 2012.
Among those who stood out from the first elimination leg and qualified to compete at the Final Battle are (in no particular order):
APC Dance Company of the Asia Pacific College
Lyceum Spartans Dance Troupe of Lyceum of the Philippines University Laguna
TIP Talents Guild of Technological Institute of the Philippines Quezon City
Performing Arts Guild of Fatima (PAGFA) of Our Lady of Fatima Quezon City.
The following day, four more schools joined them in the circle of finalists (in no particular order):
League of Barons of Lyceum Manila
UDM E. Stars of Universidad de Manila
Letran Street Dance Crew of Letran Calamba
La Salle Dance Company Street of De La Salle University Manila.
In between top-notch performances, the show kicked into high gear with a fashion show that featured two Streetstylers from each crew, showing off the latest and greatest in Skechers footwear. The best male and female Streetstyler of each elimination leg will get to walk the ramp in the Final Battle to represent their school on the biggest stage of the competition. Streetstylers moving on to the Final Battle are Renzo Bautista of UA&P, Hershey Mendoza of Our Lady of Fatima Quezon City, and Michael Vega and Kristine Angeles of De La Salle University Manila.
Catch the Skechers Streetdance Battle 10 fever in the next elimination leg, which will feature performances by high school groups on October 4 at Glorietta. Other high school competitors are set to battle on October 5 at Glorietta, while the remaining college dance crews will end Skechers Streetdance Battle 10 on a high note on October 11 at SM BF Parañaque. The teams who qualified will face off in the Final Battle on November 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
